Tigers’ Montgomery named to All-Hawkeye 10 first team
Red Oak’s Reese Montgomery has been named to the All-Hawkeye 10 Conference basketball first team in a vote of conference coaches.
The junior is a repeat first seam selection after leading the Tigers in scoring (19.7 per game) and rebounding (13.3) this season. The 6-foot-4 forwards’ 306 rebounds topped the conference.
Montgomery was joined on the first team by Kuemper Catholic’s Ryan Clair and Griffin Glynn, Glenwood’s Evan Stanislav, Creston’s Rhett Driskell, Council Bluffs Lewis Central’s Carter Thielen, Council Bluffs St. Albert’s Cooper Hamilton and Harlan’s Dallas McDowell.
Driskell, Thielen and Clair were unanimous first team choices by all league coaches.
Conference champion and Class 2A state runners up Kuemper Catholic led the way with four first and second team selections. Badding led the Knights with 19.8 points per game.
Driskell, a junior guard for Creston, was the conference scoring champion averaging 20.1 points per game.
Red Oak’s Carson Roeder earned a second team all-conference nod. The junior guard averaged 12 points while leading the league with 3.7 steals per game. He also shared the team-lead with 53 threes.
The Tigers’ A.J. Beeson earned honorable mention after averaging 10.9 points per game while knocking down 53 three-pointers.
On the girls all-conference teams, Red Oak’s Ellison Johnson was tabbed as an honorable mention selection after helping improve the Tigers win
total by five games this season.
Glenwood’s Maggie McChesney, Kuemper Catholic’s Elsa Tiefenthaler, Shenandoah’s Kalyn Scamman and Ava Underwood of Council Bluffs St. Albert were unanimous first team selections.
Those four were joined on the first team by Addison Wagoner of Clarinda, Kadley Bailey of Creston, Katrina Williams of Atlantic and Macie Better of Council Bluffs Lewis Central.
Scamman was the conference scoring champion at 22.3 points per game.
Conference champion and state semifinalist St. Albert placed two players on the first team.
The Tigers’ Johnson, a senior, chipped in seven points and a team-high six rebounds per game this season.
