Tiger harriers compete at Atlantic

The Red Oak boys and girls cross country team competed at the highly competitive Atlantic Invitational Thursday at Atlantic High School.
The Red Oak boys finished 13th in the team standings. The Tiger girls, with just three runners, did not post a team score.
Lincoln, Neb. Pius X swept the boys and girls team titles. The girls placed five runners in the top 10 and tallied 31 points. The boys finished with a team score of 115 for top honors.
Glenwood’s Grace Berglund captured the girls title with a time of 18:48, edging out Winterset’s Ava Hope’s second place time of 19:38. Tri-Center’s Haven Weers was the boys champion in 16:27.
Red Oak’s boys squad was led by the runner-up finish by Emmanuel Grass. Grass ran a 16:38, 11 seconds back of Weers.
“Emmanuel had a great race tonight,” said Red Oak coach Sueann French. “Times were much slower this evening for all runners because of the heat and lots of hills. I felt like we just didn’t have our best night. Times were slow. We looked tired, I think, because we raced on Monday, so we will regroup tomorrow and get ready for the conference meet.”
Hayden Hietbrink added a 25th place finish followed by Osiel Pedersen in 38th,
Manuel DeLeon in 85th and Sidney Bell in 105th to round out the Tigers’ scoring.
The Red Oak girls were led by Leya Walker’s 92nd place time of 27:20.
Stanton’s boys team finished 21st in Atlantic with a score of 609. Cailex Williams led the Vikings with a time of 20:54 to place 99th.
