SWV takes second in Griswold
The Southwest Valley volleyball team traveled to Griswold for a six-team round robin tournament and ended its day with a 4-1 record.
The Timberwolves downed Denison-Schleswig 21-8, 21-15, AHSTW 21-5, 18-21, 17-15, ACGC18-21, 21-19, 15-8 and Griswold 21-10, 21-15 Their lone loss came to Riverside, 21-23, 14-21.
Southwest Valley tied for first place with Riverside with five wins but were awarded second place to the Bulldogs on a seven point differential.
“The girls played together and played well today,” said Southwest Valley coach Lisa Sparks. “It was a great day of volleyball.”
Southwest Valley’s Katey Lillie, Marley Gray and Ray Helvie were all named to the all-tournament team.
Lillie led the way with 23 kills for the day, followed closely by Helvie with 21. Helvie also had a great day defensively at the net with seven solo blocks and four block assists.
Gray led the way with 29 digs and Morgan Shuler dished out 64 set assists.
Griswold’s Gabbie Greiman was also named to the all-tournament team.
Cowgirls sweep Essex
Sidney swept Essex 25-9, 25-7, 25-5 in Corner Conference volleyball last Tuesday.
Addy Haning and Keyana Haggerty had six kills each to lead Sidney.
Addy Foster dished up 23 set assists.
