Southwest Valley 67,
Nodaway Valley 32
Southwest Valley jumped out to a 24-7 lead and cruised to a 67-32 win over Nodaway Valley in Pride of Iowa Conference girls basketball last Tuesday.
“Like any game we wanted to put a lot of pressure on the other teams’ ball handlers and get out in transition,” said Southwest Valley coach Kyle Bashor. “We knew this was a young team that would be better than the first time we played them and had to keep the intensity up.  So with good defense and some nice shooting from outside in our half court we were able to extend the lead.”
Colten Pegg led four Timberwolves indouble-figures with a season-high 17 points. Alex Morgan added 14 points and Cael Hogan and Wyatt Mendenhall chipped in 13 points each.
Nodaway Valley was led by Titan Foster’s 11 points.

Timberwolves pick up 40-37 overtime win
Southwest Valley picked up a come-from-behind, 40-37 overtime victory over Wayne in Pride of Iowa Conference girls basketball Friday.
Wayne (10-8 overall, 7-7 in the conference) led 16-9 at halftime and held that lead until the four-minute mark of the fourth quarter. It was a back-and-forth affair that went into overtime at 32-32 with the Timberwolves (4-13 overall, 4-9 in the conference) outscoring the Falcons 8-5 overtime for the win.
“We just lost two heartbreaking games where we had leads with two minutes to go against Mount Ayr and Nodaway Valley,” said Southwest Valley coach Mike Cormack. “In this game, we showed so much poise and heart to come from behind to beat a 10-win Wayne squad. Both teams fought hard in this game and proud of our girls to have the strength to will themselves to this tough road victory. It was a total team effort and so glad we could win one of these tight games against a good team.”
Hailey Randall scored 18 points and Mackenzie Fast added 14 to lead the Timberwolves.  Ada Lund contributed six points and seven steals. provided solid floor play and defense in their action to contribute to the team victory.
Izzie Moore scored 16 points to lead Wayne.

Nodaway Valley 69,
Southwest Valley 64
In a game that featured eight lead changes, Nodaway Valley scored six points in the last minute of the game to pull out a 69-64 win over Southwest Valley in Corning Friday night.
Southwest Valley’s largest lead was five points and Nodaway Valley’s largest lead was seven in a rugged, back and forth matchup between two hard playing teams.
The Wolverines’ Izzy Eisbach, who leads the state in scoring at 32.3 points per game, scored 46 in the win.
“This was an extremely well-played game by both teams tonight,” said Southwest Valley coach Mike Cormack. “I think if we played another 32 minutes we would have had another dozen lead changes.  We played a top ten team in Mount Ayr to a four-point loss in our last game after leading for the first 30 minutes.  In this game, we led with one minute to go against a team with the highest scorer in Iowa basketball, girls or boys.  We played our hearts out and have had opportunities to win both of these games.  Our next step is to learn how to close out these games and finish them off.”
Hailey Randall led the Timberwolves in scoring with 21 points while adding 10 rebounds.  Maddie Bevington poured in 19 points and Ada Lund contributed 15 points.
“I am really proud of the effort and quality of play that we displayed, which is tremendous growth from the start of the year,” Cormack said. “Sixty-four points of offense is usually more than enough to get the job done, but hats off to Izzy Eisbach for another incredible game to lead her team to victory.”
