Woodbine 70,
Red Oak 43
Red Oak got down 24-10 early and never recovered in a 70-43 loss on the road at Woodbine Thursday.
Despite the lopsided score, Red Oak coach Tristin Johnson thought his team played a strong second half.
“Tonight was the first night this season I thought we boxed out really well in the second half,” Johnson said. “We were physical tonight and looking to attack.”
The Tigers struggled with Woodbine’s press and found themselves down 24-10 after the first quarter and 44 to 23 at halftime.
“This was a little more of the same struggling with the press,” Johnson said. “We also were getting beat down the floor as Woodbine did a very good job of running the floor and pushing it up the court.”
Emily Sebeniecher led Red Oak with 25 points. Keeley Jones added eight points.
Danyelle Steinkuhler and Taylor Hoefer led Woodbine with 20 points.
Shenandoah 56,
Red Oak 19
Shenandoah built a 44-13 halftime lead and Lynnae Green scored 23 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a 56-19 victory over Red Oak in Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball last Tuesday.
Green connected on 11-of-17 shots and dished three assists on her big night.
Emily Sebeniecher paced Red Oak with seven points. Keely Jones added six points.
Creston 64,
Red Oak 36
Creston opened the game on a 19-4 run and had four players score in double-figures in a 64-36 win over Red Oak in Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball last Monday.
Cold-shooting and turnovers were and an issue early for the Tigers.
“It was a tough start to the game for us,” said Red Oak coach Tristin Johnson. “We were pass happy to start the game and didn’t attack enough. Once we started attacking it really opened up some shots and we were getting to the foul line. We shot 17 free throws which is a lot for us and shot 70 percent from the line which is really good.
“If we have a better start to the game we have a lot more confidence throughout and would have been a lot closer game then it ended up being.”
Ella Turner paced the Panthers with 17 points. Kadley Bailey added 16 points,
Brynn Tussey and Holynn Rieck added 11 points each.
Ellison Johnson scored nine points and Merced Ramirez and Keely Jones added eight points each for Red Oak.
