Red Oak girls, boys sixth at co-ed relays


The Glenwood girls and boys ran away with the team titles at the 31st annual Co-ed Ram Relays at the Glenwood Athletic Complex last Tuesday.
The Red Oak boys and girls both placed sixth at the meet. The boys put together 64 points and the girls 48.
The Glenwood boys won five gold medals and compiled 137 points for the team title. Riverside was the runner up with 85 points. The Glenwood girls tallied 138 team points to go with its seven gold medals.
Red Oak’s girls were led by Jocelyn O’Neal’s gold medal in the long jump. She added a second-place finish and a new school record time of 26.38 in the 200-meters while also joining Iris Ogden, Natalie Johnson and Keely Jones on the fourth-place sprint medley relay. The quartet ran a new season-best time of 1:58.28.
O’Neal joined the quartet of Jones, Ogden and Karly Jenkins on the 4x400-meter relay that placed third.
“The girls had an amazing night tonight,” said Red Oak girls coach Abigail Ellsworth. “They have all been working so hard this season and I am so proud of everything they accomplished tonight. They each had another full lineup, but competed hard and even set some new records. They are continuing to cut time each meet and it has been so exciting to watch them compete.”
The Tigers’ distance medley relay team of Johnson, Ogden, Jones and Jenkins also set a new season-best time with a 4:29.76.
On the boys side, Cale Hall had a strong showing in the sprints, winning the 100-meters and placing fourth in the 200-meters. Hall joined Ethan Fouts, Brayden Sifford and Emmanuel Grass on the second-place distance medley.
Hall, Sifford, Fouts and Marcus Torres ran a 44:82 to set a new personal record in the 4x100-meter relay.
The Tigers’ fourth place 4x800-meter relays team of Emmanuel Grass, Hayden Heitbrink, Osiel Pederson and Reese Montgomery ran an 8:33 to set a new personal record.
“Another great night of personal records,” said Red Oak boys coach Sueann French. “Our boys ran really well on a beautiful night. We are peaking at the right time. State Qualifying is in two weeks, and we are getting closer to being ready. Super proud of the effort tonight!”
Grass overcame a stumble early in the race to finish second in the 1,600-meters while Osiel Pederson ran a personal-best time of 4:55 to place fourth.
