Red Oak girl golfers open season with win

The Red Oak girls golf team kicked off its 2025 season with a 185-236 dual victory over Heartland Christian at Whispering Woods Golf Course in Council Bluffs Thursday.
For the first time in over two decades, all four varsity players recorded scores in the 40s, according to Red Oak coach Patty Henke.
Seniors Brynn Knaus and Addey Lydon led the charge for the Tigers, claiming the top two scores. Knaus shot a 42 to earn top medalist honors, while Lydon followed closely with a 47 for runner up medalist honors.
The Tigers’ depth was on full display as Emily Sebeniecher and Ellison Johnson formed a strong supporting duo, each carding a 48. Senior Riley Burke made her debut in a Tiger uniform, posting a solid 50, while Nellie Blaine rounded out the varsity scores shooting a 58.
The dominant performance shattered Red Oak’s best nine-hole team score by an impressive 16 strokes.
“As a team we know we made some mistakes and left some strokes out on the course,” Henke said. “Which can be frustrating, but it is also very exciting, knowing the best is yet to come.”
The Tiger junior varsity squad also dominated, with freshman Paisley Gettler earning top JV medalist honors (63) and Jayda Edie securing runner-up medalist honors (66).
