Logan-Magnolia 3,
Red Oak 0
Logan-Magnolia scored a first half goal and held off Red Oak for a 3-0 win in non-conference girls soccer Friday at Russ Benda Field.
The Panthers (3-7-1) struck first with a free kick in the fifth minute of the game and held a 1-0 margin at the half.
But the Tigers (0-10) were amped up and excited for a chance to compete in the second half only down one goal, said Red Oak coach Dion Coffey.
“With some adjustments and a killer mentality, the Tigers took the field wanting to win like they never had before,” the coach said. “The Tigers and Panthers shared many phenomenal attacks and impressive defensive stances leading to a stalemate until the 67th minute.”
The Panthers’ pressure finally got to the Tigers midway through the fast and went up 2-0. With time winding down, Logan-Magnolia scored their final goal in the 77th minute.
“We did not give up and fought hard through the adversity,” Coffey said. “I have never been more proud for these girls that do so much for each other and for the team. The amount of positive comments and smiles I’d seen after this game was truly a blessing. This is all them and their dedication to better themselves individually and as teammates.”
Coffey commended the play of Keidy Camilo Perez and Haylee Joint pushing the ball up the field and the defensive intensity of Chloe Devito and Lily Marsden. He added goalkeeper Mariella Richards-Hernandez gave a “masterclass” in net, making 18 saves for the Tigers including a penalty kick at the 73rd minute mark.
Marissa Fogleman had two goals and Olivia Mackey the third for the Panthers.

Kuemper Catholic 17,
Red Oak 0
Top 10 ranked Kuemper Catholic got on the board inside the first minute of the match and cruised to a 17-0 win over Red Oak in Hawkeye 10 Conference soccer in Carroll.
“The Knights quickly started the game with a great possession of passing and through balls to lead them down the field which resulted in a score in the first minute of the game,” said Red Oak coach Dion Coffey.
The Knights then capitalized on some small Tigers mistakes to add two goals over the next two minutes. The game ended by mercy rule in the first half.
“Kenna Adams and Hannah Gross had great chemistry on the back line,” said Coffey of his defense. “Bryleigh Mauer helped tremendously with locking down the midfield and Mareli Ramos had many offensive opportunities for the Tigers. We move on and leave it behind us.”
Cierra Pudenz and Rylie Massey had three goals each for Kuemper.

Treynor 14,
Red Oak 0
The Treynor girls soccer team looked every bit of their Class 1A, No. 5 ranking in a 14-0 win over Red Oak at Russ Benda Field last Tuesday.
The Cardinals (8-0) opened up the score for a 1-0 lead in the third minute of the game and a follow up with three goals over the next seven minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead.
“The Tigers kept fighting and worked well together to keep the team focused and on track,” said Red Oak coach Dion Coffey.
The Cardinals ended the game by mercy rule with the score 14-0 at the half.

“Kenna Adams had a great game on defense alongside Mariella Richards-Hernandez who played her first game outside of net for the season,” Coffey said. “Mhylee Joint did a fantastic job in net as it was her first game ever as goalie. We stay proud and strive to get better.”
Kenner Eblen led Treynor with three goals and Lilley Casson added two.

Atlantic 10,
Red Oak 0
Atlantic knocked off Red Oak 10-0 on a windy and cold night at Russ Benda Field in Red Oak last Monday.
Both teams came into the match without a win on the season and were ready to prove who was the bigger fish.
The Trojans won the toss and elected to defend with the wind. The Tigers began the match with a promising attack into the Atlantic box, but with some great defense, they were able to push the ball back up the field.
With that counterattack, the Trojans scored their first goal off a direct kick from the 20-yard line to make the score 1-0.
With a back-and-forth battle between the two teams, the Trojans were able to score their second goal in the 16th minute.
Red Oak had many opportunities to score with their forwards, Keidy Camilo Perez and Haylee Joint, but they couldn’t break the back line.
The Trojans went on to score two more goals before half making it 4-0.
With some motivation and positivity on the sideline, Red Oak coach Dion Coffey said his team was ready to go for the second half.
“We came out looking really well and made beautiful passes and defensive stops,” Coffey said.
Atlantic had other plans and were able to slot in goals at the 45th and 50th minute marks.
“The Tigers never gave up and pushed each other to keep trying with grit and determination,” Coffey said.
Atlantic ended the game in the 65th minute by mercy rule with the score 10-0.
Despite the loss, Coffey saw a lot of what he liked from players like Hannah Gross and Jasmine Grizzard on the defensive side of the ball and Haylee Joint in the midfield.
Mariella Richards-Hernandez had 16 saves for Tigers in goal.
“I couldn’t be more proud of them for their effort and hustle,” Coffey said.
Lucy Cohrs and Cadence Kinzie had two goals each to lead Atlantic. Aydrie Coffman, Saige Coffman, Chloe Lillard, Presleigh Reese, Payton Seufer and Ali Williams added one goal each.
Tri-Center downs Red Oak 9-1
Less than 24 hours after a tough home loss, the Red Oak boys soccer team was back in action hosting Tri-Center at Russ Benda Field Saturday.
The well-balanced Trojans (4-7) proved too much for the Tigers (0-10) in a 9-1 victory.
Red Oak coach Mark Kells said his team played like a team under duress but one that never stopped battling.
The Trojans found the back of the net in the 33rd minute of the first half to take a 1-0 lead. After the ensuing kickoff there was a deflection towards the Tigers defense, and a brief breakdown a minute later allowed Tri-Center to take a 2-0 lead. They added to their lead in the 27th and 25th minutes to go up 4-0 at the half.
The Tigers had a great scoring chance late in the first half when Pace Chaillie took a shot inside the 18-yard-box and the Trojans had a hand ball with 40 seconds left in the first half.
Santiago Vasquez took the shot from the mark and put the Tigers on the board to make it 4-1 at halftime.
“After halftime I thought we settled down and we were ready to put some pressure on the Trojans,” said Kells, “but a score in the opening minute of the second half pushed the lead to 5-1.”
The Tigers did settle down and possessed the ball well in the second half before Tri-Center found the back of the net at the 23rd, 22nd and 14th minute marks to take an 8-1 lead. The Trojans scored one more time in the 9th minute for the 9-1 final score.
“After our game Friday night, I thought the guys played a great game and we could bounce back for short rest and have another good outing, but being shorthanded made it tough,” Kells said.
Chris Luna had 17 saves in goal for Red Oak.

Logan-Magnolia 4,
Red Oak 0
Crosby Yoder recorded a hat trick for Logan-Magnolia in a 4-0 win over Red Oak in boys non-conference soccer Friday.
Red Oak came out poised  and ready to play after taking on the Kuemper Catholic the night before in a lopsided match, said head coach Mark Kells.
The Tigers battled with the Panthers throughout the first half only to have a defensive breakdown at the 21st minute hand the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
In the 20th minute of the first half, Logan-Magnolia found the back of the net once again, taking a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers battled all 1st half and played great to only be down 2-0 going into halftime, said Kells.
After halftime Red Oak continued to stay poised and the two teams battled back and forth on the pitch the entire second half with the Tigers conceding a goal at the 10-minute mark of the second half as the Panthers went up 3-0 late in the game.
“We tried to gain some momentum late in the game, but it backfired on us and the Panthers scored a fourth goal with nine seconds left in game to close end the game 4-0,” Kell said. “I am very proud of how we bounced back after Kuemper Thursday night. We changed up the lineup tonight to see how we would respond after last night and I was extremely happy with the outcome of the product on the pitch but not the loss.”
Chris Luna had nine saves in goal for Red Oak.

Kuemper Catholic 11,
Red Oak 0
Red Oak dropped an 11-0 decision on the road at Kuemper Catholic in Carroll Thursday.
The Knights (5-3) scored in the 37th minute to take an early 1-0 lead and turned that into a 2-0 lead on fluke breakdown in the Tigers’ defense, said Red Oak coach Mark Kells.
“The sun happened to be right in (goalkeeper) Kaden Conn’s face on the ensuing kickoff,” Kells said. “We had some promising attacks but couldn’t find a way to get a shot on goal early in the match.”
Kuemper managed to put goals in at the 34th, 31st, 30th, 27th and 25th minute to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
Red Oak battled throughout the game but each promising attack the Tigers had, the Knights had a counterattack.
Kuemper added to their goals in the 10th, 8th, 7th and 2nd minutes of the game to put the game out of reach 11-0 to end the game in the first half.
“We have battled every game this year so far and haven’t given up,” Kells said. “I am very proud of the guys for battling as young of a team as we are and not backing down and putting up a fight.”
Charlie Mayhall had 5 goals and Fletcher Badding, Drew G’Sell, Tim Meyers, Treyger Niehaus, Brenden Vonnahme and Creighton Halbur each added goals.

Treynor 10,
Red Oak 0
Treynor defeated Red Oak 10-0 in a non-conference boys soccer battle on a wet and cold day at Russ Benda Field in Red Oak last Tuesday.
The Cardinals (7-0) came out of the gate firing on all cylinders and found the back of the net in the first minute of the game to take an early 1-0 lead.
“Treynor has a very well-balanced team, and we just lacked a few players today due to injury but never quit,” said Red Oak coach Mark Kells.
The Cardinals added four goals over the next 14 minutes to take the 5-0 lead. That lead would balloon to 10-0 with three minutes to go in the first half.
“Even though the Cardinals had a commanding lead, the Tigers continued to fight every minute of this game,” Kells said. “I’m very proud of the way we played and when you’re down players you just go out and play your heart out. It definitely wasn’t our best effort tonight but the Tigers battled every step of the way.”
Finn Mieska led the Cardinals with five goals. Corbin Thien, Nolan Scott, Gray Eyberg, Jude Mieska and Sawyer Goss each added goals.
Red Oak goalkeeper Kaden Conn had five stops in goal.
