Red Oak boys third at Shenandoah

Emmanuel Grass and Hayden Hietbrink both placed among the top finishers to help the Red Oak boys to third place at the Shenandoah Cross Country Invitational Thursday.
Riverside, with five runners finishing in the top 13, ran away with the boys team title with 36 points. Council Bluffs Lewis Central was third with 55 points followed by the Tigers’ 84 points.
The Titans’ Evan Lillie ran a 16:27 to top the boys individual finishers.
Emmanuel Grass ran a 16:50 to finish to lead Red Oak with a sixth place finish.
Hietbrink ran a 17:08 for eighth, followed by Osiel Pedersen at 14th, Casey Johnson at 28th and Bryce Williams in 30th to complete the Tigers’ scoring.
“Coach (Weston Rolenc) and I were pleased with how well we ran in this heat,” said Red Oak coach Sueann French. “Lewis Central got our guys tonight so we need to be ready to battle at the conference meet. The girls ran well against some really good competition. Twenty-five total teams there tonight and some great competition.”
Treynor topped the girls field with a 54 points. Glenwood was the runner up with a score of 66. Council Bluffs St. Albert’s Lili Denton ran a 18:55 to win the girls race.
The Red Oak girls did not register a team score but the Tigers were led by Cate Horn’s 60th place time of 25:24.
Leya Walker added an 85th place finish and Gilliam Heim was 101st to complete the Tiger girls scoring.
“We had a few injuries tonight on the very uneven course,” French said. “We will rest those kids be back at it next week.”
