Red Oak’s Baier, SW Valley’s Forsythe end careers at state

Red Oak’s Adam Baier and Southwest Valley’s Ian Forsythe wrapped up their senior seasons at the Iowa State Wrestling Meet in Des Moines on Friday.
Baier, the Tigers’ 165-pounder, picked up a Class 2A first round victory over Eddyville-Blakesburg’s Blake Johnson by a 3-2 decision before dropping his quarterfinal match to Ballard’s Tucker Vitzthum by fall. He was eliminated in round consolation round four by fall to Camache’s Olyver Fuller.
Baier closed his season with a record of 35-8.
Baier capped off an excellent career at the state tournament going 1-2 and losing in the “blood round” where a win means a medal, a loss ends your tournament.
Baier ends his career with 97 wins and a Hawkeye 10 Conference and district title.
“He has battled a lot of adversity throughout his career with various injuries, including missing his entire junior season, but he prevailed,” said Red Oak coach Tiegen Podliska. “There was a lot of pain when he lost in the ‘bloodround’ but it’s impressive for him to even have made it there due to his circumstances. We are proud of his career and the legacy he will leave in the room.
Competing in Class 1A, Forsythe, a 165-pounder, notched a first-round win over Coon Rapids-Bayard’s Treynor Cose by fall. He would lose his following match to Shenandoah’s Jacob McGargill by fall before bouncing back in the consolation round to win a 7-3 decision over Central Sprint’s Jaxon Edwards.
Forsythe finished just out of the medal rounds with a major decision loss to Easton Beyer of Sibley-Oscheyedan.
Forsythe finished his season with a final record of 43-13.
