O’Neal fourth in long jump

Red Oak’s Jocelyn O’Neal grabbed a fourth-place medal at the Iowa State Track and Field Meet in Des Moines last weekend.
The Tiger junior had a top leap of 17 feet, 1.75 inches in the 2A event.
O’Neal added a 10th place finish in the 200-meters, clocking a 25.99 and then helped the 4x400-meter relay team of Keely Jones, Karly Jenkins and Iris Ogden to a 19th place finish.
The Tigers’ sprint medley relay team of Ogden, Johnson, Jones and Jenkins ran a 4:24.61 for 23rd.
Pella Christian scored 80 points to run away with the girls team title. Van Meter was the runner-up with 60 points.
Spirit Lake and Okoboji both scored 65 points to tie for the 2A boys team title. Denver was third with 48 points.
The Red Oak boys did not medal in Des Moines but tallied three top 12 finishes and three personal records.
Cale Hall had a pair of 10th place finishes in the 100 and 200-meters and then helped the distance medley relay team of Ethan Fouts, Brayden Sifford and Emmanuel Grass to a new personal record time of 3:38 and a 16th place finish.
The 4x800-meter relay team of Grass, Hayden Hietbrink, Osiel Pedersen and Reese Montgomery also notched a new personal record with a time of 8:20.45.
Grass’ 4:27 was a new personal best in his 11th place finish in the 1,600-meters.
“I was very pleased with the performance at state,” said Red Oak coach Sueann French. “Our 4x800 (meter) had a brand new PR again and our distance medley relay had a huge PR almost beating the school record. Emmanuel Grass had a great 1600 as well as Cale Hall in the 100 and 200,  just missing the final.”
“Super excited to see how we can build on this for next year. We will miss Brayden Sifford greatly but excited to see who will step up for the next track season.”
