Hot shooting Stanton tops Essex

Stanton shot 57 percent from the field and rolled to a 58-33 win over Essex in Corner Conference boys basketball Friday.
The Vikings (5-6 overall, 4-3 in the conference) connected on 24-of-42 shots from the floor, including 5-of-13 from behind the three-point line, on its way to the win.
Tristan Elwood scored game-high 16 points. Nolan Case added 10 points and Brodee Sowers nine.
Essex (5-8 overall, 2-6 in the conference) shot 35.7 percent from the floor – 15-of-42 – and turned the ball over 28 times in the loss.
Isaiah Sholes had 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks to lead the Trojans.

Shenandoah 59,
Stanton 23
Shenandoah scored 22 of the game’s first 24 points on its way to a 59-23 victory over Stanton in nonconference girls basketball Thursday.
Nolan Case and Tristan Elwood scored six points each to lead Stanton.
Shenandoah was led by Gabe Buttry’s 14 points.

Sidney 34,
Essex 33
Isaiah Sholes notched a triple double but Sidney picked up the win in a 34-33 victory over Essex in Corner Conference boys basketball last Tuesday.
The Trojans’ Sholes scored 19 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked 10 shots on the night.
Carter Jorgensen scored 17 points and Aiden Stenzel added 14 for Sidney.

Bedford 69,
Stanton 25
Quentin Dalton and Hayden Riedel combined for 42 points for Bedford in a 69-25 victory over Stanton in Corner Conference boys basketball last Tuesday.
Dalton put in 22 points and Hayden Riedel 20 to lead the Bulldogs.

Essex 49,
Diagonal 33
Essex jumped out to a 22-7 lead after a quarter and cruised to a 49-33 win over Diagonal in nonconference boys basketball last Monday.
Essex coach Ray Baker said ball movement was key in the victory.
“We worked the ball around as a team and got some younger guys involved,” Baker said.
The Trojans held a 51 to 41 rebounding edge while holding the Maroons to 21.8 percent shooting and forcing 30 turnovers.
Isaiah Sholes recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Will Roberts added four points and 13 rebounds.
Owen Whittington led Diagonal with 18 points and nine rebounds.
