Griswold takes gold in 400-meters at Bedford relays
Griswold’s Carsyn Adams won gold in the 400-meters and Ella Gade had a top throw of 108 feet towin the discus.
The East Mills girls finished eighth in Beford. They were led by Ellie Hagen’s third place showing in the 100-meters and its third place 4x100-meter relay.
Saige Jones was the highest performing medalist for ninth place for Southwest Valley. Jones was third in the 800-meters. Alyssa Pearson was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles as the only other individual medalist for the girls.
“The girls did a great job tonight,” said Southwest Valley Coach Jason Hults. “Over a a third of the girls squad was missing for another school event in the FBLA conference, so the other girls really stepped up and performed well in some events that will probably be filled by those other girls as the season goes on.”
The Essex girls finished 10th. Ella Sandahl led the way with a gold medal time of 12:16.23 in the 3,000-meters.
On the boys side, Bedford was the team champion with 110.5 points. Fremont-Mills was the runner up with 101 points.

Southwest Valley was fifth in the team standings.
Leading the way for the Timberwolves was Brody Crozier with a pair of new school records and first place finishes in the 100 and 200-meters. Crozier ran 11.07 in the 100 to break his own school record of 11.22 set at the state track meet last year. He followed that with a 23.15 in the 200-meter, breaking his own record of 23.52 set last year.
“Brody struggled in the long jump at the start of the meet, posting four scratches, so I was very happy to see him shake off that frustration and perform so well in the 100 and 200,” Hults said.
The Timberwolves also got 1st place finishes in the high jump from Gavin Wetzel with a winning jump of 6-0 and Caleb Owen in the shot put with a new personal-record of 45-0.25.
