Griswold girls fourth, boys seventh at Shenandoah’s Terry Ratliff Relays

The Griswold girls finished fourth and the boys seventh at the Terry Ratliff Co-ed Relays in Shenandoah Thursday.
Griswold’s girls squad won two gold medals and compiled 68 points, one point behind third place Shenandoah.
Carsyn Adams won the 400-meters and Alexa Steinhoff the 800-meters to lead the Tigers. Their distance medley and 4x400-meter relays added second place medals.
East Mills finished fifth in the girls team standings with 43 points.
Caitlyn Crouse won gold in the 1,500 and the Wolverines’ 4x800-meter relay team of Mackenzie Stearns, Sophie Morrical, Sophia House and Crouse added a gold medal finish with a 11:46.89.
Stanton finished in a tie for sixth in the team standings with Bedford while Red Oak was eighth, Essex ninth and Southwest Valley 10th.
Leilanie Foster-Saye led the Viqueens with a top finish in the high jump.
Red Oak was paced by three medals from Jocelyn O’Neal in the 100-meters (second) and the long jump and the 200-meters (first).
Piper Maher was second in the 200-meters and Ella Sandahl added a second-place finish in the 3,000-meters to lead Essex.
The Timberwolves were led by a pair of third place finishes, both personal records and one of them a new school record.
In the 800-meters, freshman Saige Jones set a new school record in a time of 2:37.29, three seconds faster than the previous school record. Alyssa Pearson also set a new personal record in the 400-meter hurdles.
On the boys side, Southwest Valley tallied 64 points for fourth place in the team standings.
The Timberwolf boys had three gold medal performances.
Starting off the night in the field events, Walker Bissell won the high jump with a new personal record leap of 6 feet, 2 inches. Caleb Owen added gold in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 11.5 inches.
Wyatt Mendenhall added a gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 57.45.
Griswold’s boys finished with 28 points for seventh.
Brodee Sowers won a pair of medals in the discus (second) and the shot(third) to lead Stanton to its eighth place finish.
East Mills was 10th with 16.5 points. The Wolverines had a strong showing from its 4x200-meter relay. The quartet of Khayden Poorker, Jhalil Reed, Curtis Jackson and Jiri Brodigan ran a 1:37.40 for third place.
Essex was paced by Ashon Kline’s second place leap of 19 feet, 11 inches in the long jump.
