Essex falls on road at Fremont-Mills

Fremont-Mills got off to a quick start on both offense and defense, opening the game on a 14-0 run and cruised to a 56-7 victory over Essex in Corner Conference girls basketball.
The Knights’ lead swelled to 33-4 at the half against a Trojanette squad that suited up just six girls.
“We said we wanted to keep playing at a high level no matter how the game was going,” said Fremont-Mills coach Brett Weldon after the game. “Sometimes with a game like this, it can get sloppy. And I thought we did a good job of being solid and running things. We tried some new rotations. They ran a zone offense we hadn’t seen before so we got to run some new rotations off that. Some good things came from that. Hopefully this confidence will carry over.”
Saige Mitchell led the Knights with 16 points and eight rebounds. Carlie Nuckolls added 11 points and Bella Gute  had 10 points, nine steals and seven rebounds.
Mariska Kirchert scored all seven points for Essex.
