Hazel Lewis, 92
Hazel Lewis, 92, of Red Oak, passed away Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at the Red Oak Care Center.
Hazel Marie Lewis was born to Burl and Anna (White) Brown Jan. 28, 1919, in Athelstan.
She was employed as a truck driver and worked at Union Carbide for nearly 30 years, until her retirement.
She was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church.
Hazel started the Food Pantry in Red Oak and managed it until she was physically unable to do so any longer. She also served as a caregiver to the elderly for over 20 years.
She loved to fish, watch wrestling and enjoyed watching the squirrels from her window. She was also an avid Bible reader.
Survivors include her daughter, Anna (Joe) Sunderman, of Clarinda; five grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Freuck, of Red Oak, and Violet Rowe, of Essex; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services took place Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home. Burial was in the Essex Cemetery.
