Guest Opinion | Larry Foreman

Editor’s Note: Larry Foreman of Red Oak wrote the following poems and wanted to share them with readers of The Express. Foreman is a U.S. Navy veteran and served in the 1960s during the Vietnam War.

As the blood flows from the soldier’s wounds, he looked up and said, “Am I going to home soon?”

The medic said, “Yes son, I’m afraid you’re going to die but you’re going to your home in the sky.

The angels are coming. I hear their chariots’ roll. Don’t be afraid, they have come to take your soul.

You fought a battle and you have won. Now close your eyes and have a good trip son.

The gates to heaven are open for you; I’ve done all I can, nothing more I can do.”

See all these soldiers lying in their bed?

Some of them wish they were dead, others are glad that they are alive.

They will proudly wear their battle scar just to show they have survived.

Their lives will change, it won’t be the same, and a few will never walk again.

Yes, it’s sad but true, a lot of them have died, and they did it just for you.

When you meet a veteran, shake his hand, and thank him much for keeping this a free land.
