Griswold takes second at Early Bird
AUDUBON — The Griswold girls’ track and field team finished second at the Audubon Early Bird meet Thursday.
Griswold finished with a score of 76 points. Greene County took first in the meet as they had a score of 150.
The Tigers had three individual wins at the Early Bird, two of which came courtesy of Rebekah Topham.
Topham scored her first win in the 3,000-meter run, winning by nearly a minute over Woodbine’s Megan Maaske and running a time of 10:26.29.
The senior scored her other win in the 400-meter hurdles when she won by less than a second over Eme Johnson of Greene County, posting a time of 1:09.85.
Teammate Jessica Marshall also scored points as she finished seventh in the 400-hurdles with a time of 1:20.50.
The third win for Griswold came in the 1,500 when Alyx Flippin won easily with a time of 5:00.35. The next closest finisher was Madeline Stephens, who was 46 seconds behind Flippin. Alyssa Wyman added to Griswold’s point total with a third place finish and a time of 5:47.08.
Anna Young took sixth in the 800-meter run when she ran a time of 2:50.80.
Kayla Kirchhoff had points thanks to an eighth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.47. She also finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.84.
The top field event finish went to Mykenzie Rainey, who was third in the shot put with a toss of 32’2”.
Jackie Rush finished fourth with 99’6” in the discus.
The top relay race finish came in the 4x400 when the team of Kirchhoff, Topham, Marshall and Flippin took third with a time of 4:27.67.
Griswold had two fifth-place finishes in the 4x800 and the sprint medley. The 4x800 team featured Marshall, Young, Leah Lappe and Payton Rush as they ran a time of 11:19.27. The sprint medley team featured Payton Rush, Young, Katie Duggan and Mandi Backhaus as they ran a 2:08.16.
The distance medley team of Duggan, Jeana Freund, Payton Rush and Wyman finished sixth with 5:00.83.
The 4x200 team of Lappe, Backhaus, Duggan and Melodie Anstey also scored points as they finished eighth with a time of 2:05.46.
Griswold returns to action Tuesday when they compete in the Lady Cardinal Relays. The meet starts at 4:30 p.m. at Clarinda High School.
They’ll be on the road again Thursday to compete at the Lady Tiger Relays in Red Oak. The meet starts at 5 p.m.
