Griswold has another Hall of Pride challenge planned

GRISWOLD — Griswold High School will once again be hosting another Iowa Hall of Pride Challenge.

The scrimmage will take place Nov. 21 when the girls basketball team hosts Stanton for a JV/varsity doubleheader scrimmage at 6 p.m.

This year’s service project will be “Hoops 4 Hounds: A Fight Against Type 1 diabetes.” 

The project will raise money for Markus Palmer, a two-year-old from Griswold who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 18-months old.

Commonly known as juvenile diabetes, it typically is diagnosed in children and young adults. Only five percent of people with diabetes have this form of the disease.

Griswold will be raising money for Palmer to get a diabetic alert dog. 

The dog will be purchased from “Heads Up Hounds,” which is an organization based in Omaha that trains rescue dogs to become service dogs.

The Griswold girls’ basketball team and head coach Jeff Koenck’s modern issues class have done service projects in recent years for the Iowa Hall of Pride Challenge, winning awards the last couple of years.

The high school will have fundraising events throughout the week of Nov. 17-21, leading up to the scrimmage.
