Griswold FB gets underway

Submitted by Andy Everett

Our Tiger eight traveled down Highway 34 and scrimmaged Murray at their place.
The controlled scrimmage included about 120 plays, and the Tigers looked preetty good. There are lots of things to still work on, but everyone did a nice job, and all 21 players got in the game.
Our scrimmage with Murray went well; we were pretty evenly matched up. Derek Mueller ran and threw the ball well at quarterback, and he is one of the very best leaders I have ever coached.
The running backs, Lane Mueller and Cale Swain, ran the ball really hard and each caught a couple passes out of the backfield. Tight ends Colten Tasto and Colton Turner made some nice catches.
Guard Sam Olson did very well pulling and trapping the other team’s defensive line, and center Seth Butler was excellent blocking and snapping the ball. Tackles Brayden Stirek, Hunter Jackson, and Alex Hartman rotated at that spot and ran in plays, and they did very well. We ran all of our offense and we did some good things, but we have stuff to fix and improve.
On defense, Murray’s coach Jeff Schoning’s group looked solid. Defensive ends Tasto and Butler played well for the Tigers, getting pressure on the QB and taking care of the option.
L. Mueller and D. Mueller covered the pass well in the safety positions, and did a great job of containing, not letting the offense get outside of us.
Line backer Sam Olson had some big hits and was all over the field. Turner and D. Mueller each had an interception on back-to-back plays.
Swain was good in coverage all night, and came up and hit people hard. Brandon Bellmyer, Brayden Stirek, Zander Luft, Hunter Jackson, and Alex Hartman also rotated in on the defensive line.
We also had time for our JV to get in on the action. The JV line of Zach Weathers, Aiden Kennedy, Bellmyer, Stirek, Cody Greuble, and Luft really blocked well.
Hartman ran the ball exceptionally hard and wing backs Jackson and Walker Brosam both scored. (Walker was all smiles and Hunter left the field with the ball after he scored. I think it was headed for his trophy case).
The JV defense also played well; getting in on that action was Cooper Harrison, Tosh Feltner, Alex Rush, and Turner.
Our Tiger 8 travel to Ar-We-Va to open the season for real this Friday night with the kickoff at 7 p.m.
