Griswold boys win home meet
GRISWOLD — The Griswold boys track and field team held off Fremont-Mills to win the title at the Tiger Relays Thursday.
Griswold won the meet with a score of 112, three points ahead of runner-up Fremont-Mills in the Class A division.
Hadley Ogg had the highlight individually for Griswold with his win in the 400-meter hurdles, running a time of 1:02.51 and edging out Mitchell Nelsen of Audubon by less than a tenth of a second.
Mason Boucher meanwhile had second place finishes in both the discus (121’6”) and the shot put (39’6”).
The Tigers had three wins in the relay races.
The first win came in the 4x800 when the team of Morgan Kimpson, Jordan Vetter, Holden Ogg and Jacob Maass ran a time of 9:06.86.
The 4x200 team, featuring Derek Kirchhoff, Grant Haynes, Maass and Kenneth Clary scored the second win, running a time of 1:36.97.
Finally, the distance medley team of Clary, Haynes, Maass and Vetter won with a time of 3:50.97.
Clary missed out on a win in the 100-meter dash when he was five-hundredths of a second behind Adair-Casey’s Emmitt Wheatley, running a time of 11.16 seconds.
Haynes took third in the 200-meter dash when he ran a time of 24.12 seconds, less than a second behind Wheatley.
Kirchhoff had a fourth place finish in the high jump (5’4”), while Aaron Metheny was fourth in the long jump (18’6.75”).
Another close finish came in the 4x100 when Kirchhoff, Hadley Ogg, Haynes and Clary ran a time of 45.49 seconds to place second.
Griswold had a second place finish in the shuttle hurdles and a third place result in the 4x400.
Southwest Valley
The Timberwolves took sixth in the Griswold meet Thursday, recording a score of 42 points in the AA division.
Keegan Longabaugh had the only win for Southwest Valley in the shot put when he had a throw of 45’7.5”, more than a foot better than Jackson Scott-Brown of St. Albert.
Longabaugh also finished third in the discus with a throw of 134’.
Scott Vanderhoof took runner-up honors for Southwest Valley in the high jump as he leapt 5’8”. Teammate Colten Drake took fourth with a jump of 5’6”.
Additionally, Drake had a sixth place finish in the long jump, leaping 16’4.75”.
The best relay race finish for Southwest Valley came in the 4x100 relay when the team of Gunnar McCuen, Longabaugh, Drake and Tyler Bissell ran a time of 49.04 seconds to finish fourth.
Drake, Bissell, Vanderhoof and Blake Haidsiak took fifth as part of the shuttle hurdle team, running a 1:12.09.
The distance medley team took fifth with a time of 4:15.83 and the 4x800 team finished sixth with a time of 10:12.71.
Griswold will once again be hosting a meet Thursday afternoon, along with the girls team.
The meet, which also features Stanton, Southwest Valley, St. Albert, Missouri Valley, Lenox and Nishnabotna, is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start at Griswold High School.
Griswold will be at Audubon Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
