Griswold baseball picks up first win of season

The Griswold Tigers earned their first Corner Conference and season win in a 5-2 victory over Essex/South Page last Monday, June 10.
Josh Brownlee scored in the bottom of the first to get the Tigers on the board, and the score held through the top of the third.
Griswold drove in two runs in the bottom of the third inning, and Essex got one run in the fourth from Wesley Johnson, who was walked, then stole second and third, and was hit home by Quentin Thornburg.
Griswold added a run in the fourth and fifth innings to extend the lead to 5-1. Ohnmacht plated a run in the seventh, but the Trojans could not get another runner home.
Essex left nine runners stranded, including two innings with bases loaded.
J. Brownlee earned the win for Griswold, pitching a solid 5 2/3 innings and striking out nine Trojans. He hit two batters, walked five, and gave up just three hits.
Evan Kelly threw 1 1/3 innings of relief with one strike out, one walk, and gave up one run off one hit.
Kelly was two for two at bat with three stolen bases and two runs scored.
J. Brownlee was two for three with three stolen bases and two runs scored.
Brendan Atkinson hit a double, stole two bases and plated one run.
Sam Olson recorded two RBI and one stolen base; Colton Turner had one RBI.
Zane Vance controlled the defense for the Tigers with some spectacular catches, stops, and plays at second base.
Trojan Eli Drennen took the loss pitching a complete game. Drennen gave up just three hits and struck out four while walking two, both in the final inning.
Q. Thornburg had two hits and Mason McClarnon one for the Trojans.
Ohnmacht was walked twice, stole two bases, and plated one run to lead the offense, and Johnson scored the other Trojan run.
Q. Thornburg recorded the sole RBI for the Trojans.
JV
The JV Tigers defeated Essex 9-7.
Nate Keiser went one of two at bat with two RBI, and K. Brownlee recorded one RBI and one stolen bag.
Olson pitched two innings and gave up three earned runs, struck out six and walked seven. K. Brownlee pitched one inning, gave up one earned run, and struck out two.
