Good Samaritan Society celebrates National Volunteer Week

RED OAK — The Good Samaritan Society - Red Oak is joining other organizations across the country in celebrating National Volunteer Week during the week of April 10-16.

National Volunteer Week is set aside each year to recognize volunteers for their contributions.

The Good Samaritan Society - Red Oak plans to host an Appreciation Dinner on Tuesday, April 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the chapel to honor its volunteers.

“Volunteers play an essential role in the lives of our residents,” Administrator Brandi Petrik says. “We appreciate the many people who share their time and their talents, and we encourage others to seek out ways that they, too, can better their community by becoming a volunteer.”

National Volunteer Week began in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order establishing an annual celebration of volunteering.

Today, the special week is sponsored by the Points of Light Institute and HandsOn Network.

The Good Samaritan Society - Red Oak is part of The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, a not-for-profit organization that owns and operates skilled nursing care and retirement living centers across the country.
