Friday Football: Stanton faces Essex/South Page

It's another week of football in 8-man District 8. Here is a preview of all the games taking place in the area Friday night.

Stanton at Essex/South Page

It's Homecoming in Essex as ESP is searching for its first win this season. They play a Stanton team that is 1-4 overall for the season. Their only win this season was a week 0 non-district victory against Nishnabotna.

The last time these two met, Stanton came out on top in a close one, 20-16. Neither Essex or South Page have beaten Stanton in multiple seasons.

The last time an Essex team won was 2006. As for South Page, they haven't scored a win against Stanton since 1996.

The Vikings are coming off of a 56-20 loss to Fremont-Mills during last week's homecoming. ESP meanwhile lost to CAM in Anita 66-36.

Sidney at Fremont-Mills

This game could determine who wins the district. Both teams enter Friday's game with a 3-0 district record.

If Fremont-Mills was to lose, they could possibly drop to third place in the standings, behind Southwest Valley. Sidney owns a head-to-head tiebreaker over Southwest Valley.

Last year's meeting was close as Sidney held off the Knights 31-30.

Fremont-Mills though has won two of the last three meetings.

CAM at Lenox

This could also be an elimination game. Both teams have two losses in the district and neither can afford a third, with Fremont-Mills, Sidney and Southwest Valley having one combined loss thus far in district play.

Lenox lost to Southwest Valley last week. They've lost two of their last three games, after starting the season 3-0.

CAM meanwhile got back on track last week with their win over Essex/South Page. CAM won last year's meeting 60-20.

West Harrison at Nishnabotna

This is the only non-district game for the week. Nishnabotna had a bye last week. Their last game was Sept. 20 when they lost to Lenox 54-28.

West Harrison meanwhile has struggled, losing three straight, including last week 55-7 to Coon Rapids-Bayard. West Harrison started the season winning their first three games, including week 0 versus Fremont-Mills.

Nishnabotna lost the meeting last season with West Harrison 68-28.
