Friday Football: 8-Man Week 3 Preview
Friday night begins the first week of district football for 8-man. Here's a look at some of the key games taking place.
East Mills @ Stanton
Both teams are 2-0 heading into the first week of district games. However, only one of them will leave Stanton Friday night as a 3-0 team.
The Wolverines have been dominant in their first two games this season. East Mills had a 49-point win over Lenox last Friday. They had also opened the season with a 63-26 win over Adair-Casey.
Stanton meanwhile is coming off of an 18-15 win over Cumberland Anita Massena (CAM). They defeated Lenox 50-12 in week 1 of the season.
East Mills will be led by quarterback Luke Schafer, who is fourth in 8-man in passing yards and third in passing touchdowns. Schafer had five touchdown passes against Lenox.
In last year's meeting, Stanton defeated East Mills 30-20.
Essex @ Villisca
The Blue Jays look to pick up a win as they celebrate their homecoming Friday night.
The Blue Jays are 0-2, coming off a 22-20 loss to Melcher-Dallas. Essex meanwhile is coming off a 58-32 loss to East Union.
Jordan Jones and Cameron Kinney will lead Essex going into the game. Jones caught 10 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns against East Union. He currently leads 8-Man District 8 in receiving yards.
Villisca defeated Essex last season, 31-22.
Nishnabotna @ Fremont-Mills
The Warriors and Knights will go head-to-head to start the year 3-0.
Fremont-Mills defeated Adair-Casey last week, 80-8. They've allowed 16 points on defense this season, while scoring more than 130 on offense.
Nishnabotna defeated Lamoni in week 1, 34-32. They had a bye last week, giving them time to prepare for the Knights.
Fremont-Mills won last year's game 63-0
Sidney @ Charter Oak-Ute
The Cowboys are the only team not playing a district game on Friday.
Sidney is 2-0 with wins over Heartland Christian and Lamoni. Charter Oak-Ute has lost this year to River Valley and Remsus-Union.
