Free active shooter training for businesses Jan. 28 at SWCC

Believing the phrase, “It’s better to be prepared for an opportunity and not have one, than to have an opportunity and not be prepared,” an active shooter threat/active shooting training will be provided to local business owners and managers.

The free training will take place beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Southwestern Community College, 2300 N. 4th St., Red Oak.

Brad Baker, Red Oak community liaison/relations officer, said this is a training opportunity to learn the best sources and procedures to implement during an active threat situation in one’s location.

“Red Oak Police Chief Justin Rhamy and Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce will provide details for a business to utilize during an active threat scenario inside of the establishment,” explained Baker. “Chief Rhamy will provide some background and statistics on active threat/active shooter events, present a video training source to educate on response (from business and law enforcement), and discuss business preparedness.”

Additionally, Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce will present information on response from EMS, incident response to those who are wounded and suggestions on updating on-site medical/first aid kits. Montgomery County Memorial Hospital staff will also be available to discuss Stop The Bleed and proper tourniquet procedures.

“To quote a local business owner, ‘Failing to plan is planning to fail,’” said Baker.
