Former Red Oak A.D. Blackman receives state honor
Ken Blackman has been inducted into the IHSADA Hall of Fame.
Blackman is a graduate of Malvern High School where he competed in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tarkio College while competing in football.
Blackman received his Masters Degree in secondary school administration and supervision from NWMSU.
Blackman began his teaching and coaching career in 1973 at Dysart-Genesseo High School. He served the Red Oak School District for 32 years as a teacher, coach, and as an assistant principal/A.D. During his tenure as A.D., improvements were made to the track, tennis courts, gymnasium, weight room, softball and baseball fields, wrestling facility and press boxes.
Blackman was active in the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association in many capacities. He was named the SW District A.D. of the Year in 2002 and the Middle School A.D. of the Year in 2007. Blackman and his wife Kathy have two sons and three grandchildren.
