Football Round-up: Griswold, East Mills start 2-0, Villisca 0-2, Essex 1-1

East Mills 55, Lenox 6

The East Mills Wolverines are 2-0 after defeating the Lenox Tigers in Malvern last Friday night, 55-6.

Quarterback Luke Schafer completed, including five touchdown passes.

He finished the game with 206 yards passing. Schafer also had a 21-yard rushing touchdown.

Schafer had two touchdown passes of 50 yards or more, including a 56 yard pass to Kaleb Richter.

The other 50 yard touchdown pass was a 51- yarder to Charlie Ruff,  his only catch of the game.

Brandon Clemmons caught two touchdown passes, including a 27-yard reception. Clemmons finished the game with 33 yards receiving and 76 rushing.

Kyle Steiner had two rushing touchdowns for the Wolverines, including one from 28-yards away.

East Mills opens up district play on the road Friday night as they face the Stanton Vikings.

Griswold 52, Riverside 6

The Griswold Tigers defeated the Riverside Bulldogs Friday night, 52-6.

Griswold had 404 yards rushing with six touchdowns for the game against Riverside.

Garrett Muhlbauer led the Tigers with 135 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

Kenneth Clary was shy of 100 yards rushing, finishing with 97, including a 64-yard touchdown run, which was his only of the game.
Holden Ogg had the other rushing touchdown, as he ran one in from 15 yards, on his only carry of the game.

Jared Schoning rushed three times for 63 yards and also returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.

Quarterback Devin Bates passed the ball six times, completing four for 72 yards with one touchdown pass.

The touchdown went to Taylor Briles for 25 yards.

With the win, the Tigers are now 2-0 for the season.

They start district play this week when Griswold is home to take on Tri-Center.

Melcher-Dallas 22, Villisca 20

The Villisca Blue Jays lost their second game of the season Friday night, doing so to Melcher-Dallas, 22-20.

Melcher-Dallas rushed for nearly 200 yards against the Blue Jays. Trent Flesher had 197 yards on 38 carries with two touchdowns against the Blue Jays.

Dalton Roland threw a touchdown pass of 15 yards to Kenneth Wadle. Wadle finished the game with four receptions for 48 yards.

The Blue Jays are now 0-2 heading into 8-man district play.

They will face the Essex Trojans Friday night at home for their homecoming game. The Trojans are coming off a 58-32 loss to East Union in Afton.

Villisca defeated the Trojans last season, 31-22.

East Union 58, Essex 32

Three touchdown runs from Zach Welch made the difference as East Union handed the Essex Trojans their first loss of the season, 58-32.
Welch finished the game with 165 yards rushing on 21 carries.

Trevor Barnett passed for three touchdowns against the Trojans defense and finished with 165 yards passing.

All three of those touchdown passes went to Michael Weinkoetz, who finished the game with six receptions for 119 yards.
