Following loss to Stanton, Villisca wins at Nishnabotna

HAMBURG—The Villisca Blue Jays girls basketball team picked up their third straight victory Friday night when they defeated the Nishnabotna Blue Devils, 37-32.
Villisca jumped out to an early 9-4 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Blue Devils did match them point-for-point, but couldn’t gain ground on the Blue Jays.
Jill Vanderhoof finished as the high scorer for the Blue Jays with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Vanderhoof also grabbed six rebounds and had six assists.
Morganne Haer scored eight points, while Amanda Focht scored seven points on 3-of-6 shooting, with six rebounds for the night.
Chelsea Nebel led Nishnabotna in scoring with nine points for the night.
The Blue Jays lost their first conference game of the season last Tuesday night when the Stanton Viqueens defeated them, 37-24.
Stanton jumped ahead of the Blue Jays with an 11-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Stanton’s six-point lead remained at halftime, but the Blue Jays were able to score some points in the second period. However, Stanton led 23-17.
The Viqueens added another five points to their lead and were soon up 34-23 at the end of three. The low scoring fourth quarter favored the Viqueens for the game.
Jill Vanderhoof led the Blue Jays in scoring with seven points.
She was also Villisca’s leading rebounder with 14, including five off the offensive glass.
Bree Ann Fisher finished with five points. Focht, Mikayla Dolch and Auxier each scored four points in the loss.
Villisca has one more game before the holiday break. Tuesday night, they head to Tabor to face Fremont-Mills. The two will tip-off at 6 p.m.
