Firefighters extinguish blaze at United Farmers Cooperative
More information is now available regarding a fire earlier Wednesday morning, Nov. 30, at United Farmer's Cooperative in Red Oak.
According to Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce, Red Oak firefighters were called to the scene of a fire at the UFC fertilizer plant at 11:08 a.m.
Upon arrival, Bruce said firefighters noted heavy smoke coming from the fertilizer plant. UFC staff at the scene told firefighters a sulfur pile was on fire. Bruce said firefighters were able to make an interior attack on the fire and contain it to the sulfur load pit. Smoke from the building was then velinated.
There were no injuries reported. An investigation into the cause determined the fire was likely started by a front end loader working in the fertilizer plant.
The Red Oak Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Stanton Fire Department, Red Oak Police, Montgomery County Emergency Management, and other agencies, as well as members of the UFC staff.
