Fire damages Essex home
No injuries were reported following a house fire in Essex Tuesday morning.
Essex Fire Chief Todd Franks said they responded to the call early Tuesday morning to 807 Nebraska Ave. Franks credits two factors which helped keep the fire contained.
“The house had working smoke detectors and there was some quick thinking of the occupants who were able to keep the majority of the fire contained to a small area,” said Franks.
He added the homeowners awoke to the sound of smoke detectors and smelled the smoke. They quickly evacuated people and pets and shut the door to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the house.
“All occupants including three children and three pets escaped with no injuries. Essex firefighters kept water damage to a minimum although the entire house has smoke damage,” commented Franks.
Firefighters were on the scene about three hours. The cause of the fire has not been released. Damage estimates are pending.
Essex Fire and Rescue was assisted at the scene by Page County Emergency Management, the Shenandoah Police Department, Page County Sheriffs Deputies and Shenandoah Rescue.
