The FIGHT Against CANCER

While I was sitting in the lobby of the doctor’s office on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, I saw a big banner: “Get Your Mammogram Today!” I had been putting it off, so I made an appointment. A few days later, a biopsy showed I had invasive Stage 1 breast cancer. I chose to do a lumpectomy and six weeks of radiation. When I was finished, I took a pill for five years to prevent the cancer from coming back.

Exactly one year and one month from the time I quit taking that pill, everything seemed to be going pretty smooth. In March 23, 2016, I learned the cancer had returned. I had another lumpectomy and radiation. I had to wait until March 2017 to see if I would be cancer-free.

I want you to know that my mammogram came back clear this past March, which was the greatest news I could have received.

Ladies, please make sure to get your yearly mammograms!

Marsha was the recipient of the St. Wenceslaus Pink-Out fundraiser in the fall of 2016. The Omaha church and school is where her daughter, Stacey Meckna, works in the school office. Her granddaughter Ellie (a 2016-17 seventh grader), and grandsons Tommy (fifth grade) and Parker (fourth grade) attend school there.
