Essex grad starring at IWCC

Matthew Nicholas, an Essex High School graduate, is a member track and field team at Iowa Western Community College.

He is a three-time national qualifier in the long jump.

“Matthew is the complete package,” IWCC track coach Emmett. Statzer said. “He backs up his success on the track with great academic accomplishments, as well as last year he was named Academic All America by the coaches association and I assume he will receive the same honor this year as well.”

Statzer said Nicholas has several NCAA and NAIA schools recruiting him for his final two seasons of collegiate competition.

“If I summarized Matt up in two words, it would be coachable and disciplined,” Statzer said. “As far as I am concerned, those are the best qualities to have as an athlete.”
