Essex girls at 6-0 after win over Sidney

ESSEX – A suffocating first half defense helped the Essex girls remain undefeated in a 42-30 win over Sidney Tuesday.
Essex (6-0) led at halftime 16-7, as their defense generated six steals and four blocks in the win.
Sayj Martin came off the bench to lead the offense with 14 points, adding nine rebounds and a pair of steals. Daiton Martin scored 8 points and contributed with six rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals.
Lexy Larsen scored 10 points for Essex, as the Trojans connected on just 10 of 38 shots in the game. Camryn McClintock added five points and nine boards.
Essex will defend its perfect record with a pair of home games when the season resumes, as they host South Page and Heartland Christian Jan. 7 and 8.

In the boys game, Essex fell behind early and couldn’t recover in a 49-46 loss to Sidney.
Sidney led 15-9 after the first quarter and 41-35 heading into the final eight minutes. Essex outscored the Cowboys 11-8 in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t take the lead.
Cody Davis played a dominant game inside the paint with 12 points and 21 rebounds, including 13 on the offensive glass.
Gunnar Glasgo also scored 12 points and Jaymn Vandusen added 10.
For the game, Essex shot 27 percent from the field, hitting 18 of 66 shots.
Essex drops to 4-4 on the season with the loss, and will play again Jan. 8 at Heartland-Christian.
