Elks Lodge hosts Big Band Dance featuring Popcorn Button
Popcorn Button, a 20-piece band comprised of musicians from Atlantic High School, Iowa State University and the University of Iowa, are bringing a weekend of entertainment to Atlantic.
The Elks Lodge of Atlantic is hosting the “Let Freedom Swing” big band and dancing event featuring Popcorn Button and ballroom aficionados, Pam and Jake Auerbach, Saturday, July 23. The event will start at 7 p.m. at 501 Poplar Street.
In addition to the classic big band hits Popcorn Button often presents, a few new numbers will be added, including “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Moon River Waltz,” and “Too Fat Polka.”
The Auerbachs will offer free ballroom lessons during the event, teaching classic moves such as the waltz, polka and two-step to those who want to groove with the big band music.
Popcorn Button will also be performing at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, Sunday, July 24. The band will be kicking of an evening for RAGBRAI riders as the pre-dinner entertainment.
