Edith A. Allen, 86

Edith A. “Edie” Allen, 86, of Elliott, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.  

Edith Anice “Edie” Allen was born to Delbert and Doris (Walker) Artlip June 4, 1925, in Grant. She attended school in Elliott.

Edie was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Allen June 4, 1954, in Casper, Wyo., and they moved back to Elliott in 1961, where they operated a restaurant.  

Over the years Edie worked as a waitress, was in charge of housekeeping at the Holiday Inn and worked as a seasonal employee for the Thomas D. Murphy Company.  

Edie was a member of the Elliott Church of Christ and also attended the Community of Christ Church in Shenandoah. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, canning, garage sales, fishing, playing cards and her Beagle puppies.  

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bob Allen, Feb. 4, 2007; infant son, Richard Dean; brothers and sisters, infant Fay Artlip, Dean Artlip, Maree Finchem, and Bob Artlip.  Survivors include her daughter, Kay Keeton, of Elliott; stepson, Gary (Marcia) Allen, of Corning; grandchildren, Rick Keeton, of Shenandoah, Lyndsey Lamb, of Atlantic, John Allen, of Des Moines, and Rachel (Nicholas) Edwards, of Corning; great-grandchildren, Bob Keeton, of San Diego, Calif., Meagan (Dustin) Mattson, of Shenandoah, Jessica Keeton, of Iowa City, and Rachael Peterson, of Des Moines; great-great-grandchildren, Jazmine, Tyson, Jacob, Jesse, Matthew, and October; brother, Charles “Buzz” (Elaine) Artlip, of Villisca; sister, Betty Lawson, of California; brother-in-law, Don Allen, of Red Oak; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Wayne) Echternach, of Red Oak, Jewel Allen, of Rawlins, Wyo., and Nettie Artlip, of Elliott; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services took place Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mel Smith officiating. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott. Visitation with the family was Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.
