Eat chili for The Grand

The Grand Theatre is a vital part of Red Oak and Montgomery County. The effort by its board of directors to add a second screen can get a boost in funding from you later this week if you will do two things: eat chili and vote for the best chili with a contribution.

The Red Oak Express’ Annual Barb Gray Chili Cook-Off is Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Red Oak Fire Station. The event is just prior to the last home football game of the season. It is open to the public.

The event will feature at least nine different chili entries from various organizations. As of Monday, those committed include Red Oak Fire Department, Rotary Club, Grand Theatre, Great Western Bank/Good Samaritan Society, Dovel Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Hy-Vee, Fareway, Dave Dimmitt, and the Red Oak Farmers Market/Walnut Creek Acres. There is time to enter by contacting The Express at 712-623-2566.

The chili entrants will be set up at tables inside the fire station. The Express provides crackers, cheese, bowls, and spoons. There will be drinks and desserts on hand, too.

All of the proceeds from the event will go to The Grand Theatre its expansion/renovation work.
