East Mills, Stanton take top two spots at Sidney

SIDNEY — The East Mills boys’ track team took the team title at Thursday’s Sidney track meet.

East Mills had a score of 150 points to take the championship. Stanton was runner-up with 67 points, while Essex finished seventh with 37. Ten teams competed at the meet.

The highlights for the Wolverines came in two events when they took first and second both times. In the 110-meter high hurdles, it was Sam Rew winning (18.31) and Dylan Schroeder (18.53) taking second. In the long jump, Schroeder took first (17’0.25”), while Josh Hopkins (16’11.5”) finished second. Stanton’s Easton Blunt (16’0.5”) was third and Connor Hultman (14’7” was sixth).

East Mills scored wins in the 4x200 and shuttle hurdle relays.

Stanton had two big wins, both by Alex Becthold in the field events. Becthold won the discus and the shot put. In the discus, Becthold won with 131’, while in the shot put, he won with 43’2”, beating out East Mills’ Matt Glockel.

Hultman had a highlight in the 400-meter hurdles when he finished second with a time of 1:03.50.

The lone win for Essex came in the 1,600 when Cody McClintock held off Nishnabotna’s Josh Haning by a second to run a 5:06.81.
