Dr. Kent Webb, 59
Dr. Kent L. Webb, 59, of Red Oak, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at his home.
Dr. Kent Lee Webb was born to Paul Clark and Margaret Janet (Woods) Webb June 30, 1952, in Red Oak.
He graduated from Red Oak High School with the class of 1970, and received his Bachelors of Science Degree from Northwest Missouri State University in 1974. Kent received his Masters Degree in Audiology from KU Medical School in 1978, and his Doctorate from the University of Arizona in 2004.
Kent opened a clinic in Red Oak in 1981, and grew to serve 14 clinics (ASI Inc.) in southwest and south-central Iowa. He was a member of the American Academy of Audiologists, the Iowa Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology, and was involved with the Starkey Hearing Foundation.
Kent was united in marriage to Jean Payne May 25, 1985, in Red Oak. He was very active in the community of Red Oak. He was a lifelong member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. Kent was a longtime Red Oak Country Club member, a huge supporter of the Montgomery County Family YMCA and served on the Montgomery County Compensation Board.
He was always active in sports, whether it was coaching his kids’ athletic events, enjoying biking and exercising, or just watching a good game. Kent’s family describes him as a very generous man who would help anyone.
Kent and Jean were looking forward to mission trips they had planned where they would go and provide hearing aids for a better hearing world. Kent and Jean also enjoyed spending time at their home in Hawaii, where they intended to retire someday.
Kent was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jane Stillinger.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Webb, of Red Oak; children, Jennifer (Bob) Ruble, of Des Moines, Jason (Colleen) Webb, of Des Moines, Jaimi Webb, of Des Moines, Lisa Jones, of Omaha, Eric Jones, of Springfield, Mo., Melissa Webb, of Omaha, and Michael Webb, of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Billy Webb, Caitlin Webb, Dylan Webb, Conrad Sauber and Oliver “Kent” Webb; nieces, Katie (Luke) Naughton, of Australia, and Klaire Stillinger, of Des Moines; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept., 15, at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with Rev. Caryn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church or the Starkey Hearing Foundation. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
