Costello files for Iowa house

IMOGENE — A Mills County farmer announced last week he will be running for a newly formed seat in the Iowa House of Representative.

Mark Costello (R-Imogene) is seeking the District 23 seat, which includes the counties of Fremont and Mills, and the northern two-thirds of Montgomery County.

Costello farms in Mills County, northwest of Imogene, where he lives with his wife Rachel. They have four children.

According to a press release announcing his candidacy, Costello graduated from Nishna Valley in 1980 and received his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Information Systems from the University of Northern Iowa in 1984. After working as a Programmer/Analyst for Garst Seed Company for five years, he returned to the farm full time.

Costello has been active on the board of the Mills County Farm Bureau having served as Vice President and President. He remains on the legislative committee.

“I want to bring a common sense, socially and fiscally conservative voice to the capitol,” Costello stated in the release. “I believe this properly represents the small town, rural values of most people in this district.”

Iowa House District 23 was created by recent redistricting.  Richard Anderson, Greg Forristall and Cecil Dolecheck currently represent the new district.
