Corner Conference names girls' all-star team

The 2015-2016 girl’s basketball All conference list has been released from the Corner Conference, and many area teams had a nice showing on the postseason list.

The Essex Trojanettes had two girls on the first team and one girl on the second team, with another making the honorable mention list. Essex finished 19-4 and went to the district finals.

Point guard Daiton Martin and forward Jescenia Mosley were both named to the first team.

Martin averaged 9.7 points per game, 5.6 assists per game and 3.7 steals per game with the help of Essex’s full court press that gave teams trouble all season long.

Mosley scored 13.8 points per game and grabbed seven rebounds per game,

Mosley led the conference in scoring for players who appeared in 10 games or more.

More area teams were represented as well.Chelsea Weis from Stanton and Samantha Opal from East Mills were both selected to the first team.

Weis averaged 12.7 points per game, to go along with 5.1 rebounds per game while Opal averaged a double-double with 11.2 points per game and 10.3 rebounds per game.

The second team had other area representation was well, as Essex, Stanton and East Mills had someone make the team.

For Essex it was the older sister of first teamer Daiton Matrin, Sayj Martin. Martin averaged 10.8 points per game this season and grabbed 8.1 rebounds per game, which was third in the conference.

The Viqueens of Stanton saw Devin Druivenga make the second team. She averaged 9.3 points per game during the season.

Junior Zena Courtier from East Mills was also named to the second team, she scored 6.5 points per game and was fourth in the conference in assists.

Ally Focht of Stanton was also named to the honorable mention team, she averaged 6.1 points per game and was ninth in the conference in assists.

Ciara Burnison of Essex was also on the honorable mention team. She ranked sixth in the conference in assists.
