Clutch hit for French

 

ATLANTIC – Red Oak catcher Gabrielle French came through in the clutch for the Tigers, as she belted a solo home run in extra innings against Atlantic Thursday.
French batted three for four in the Tigers’ 2-1 win over the Trojanns, including her game-winning home run.
Lexie Holmgren picked up the win, pitching one and two thirds innings, giving up only one hit and striking out two. Holmgren relieved Jami Redel in the seventh inning.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Tigers led in the top of the sixth inning as the weather started to roll in.
The Trojanns tied up the score in the bottom of the inning before the game was postponed with the score tied at five in the top of the seventh.
The make-up date has not been scheduled to finish the game.
The Tigers’ week started with a 10-0 loss in six innings against Creston.
Red Oak managed only three hits off of 2009 all-state pitcher Madison Frain. Redel had two of the three Tigers hits. Caitlin Smith picked up the only other.
Redel also took the loss, giving up four earned runs while striking out two and walking one Panther batter.
The Tigers’ bounced back Wednesday, defeating Abraham Lincoln (Council Bluffs), racking up eight runs, in their 8-5 win.
French led the way with a double and a three-run home run in the Tigers’ win.
Redel also had two hits and an RBI, while scoring two runs for Red Oak. Redel also picked up the win pitching four and a third innings, shutting out Abraham Lincoln with three strikeouts and giving up four hits. Holmgren finished the final two and two thirds innings, closing out the game, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out one batter.
The Tigers are 13-6 overall this season, with games against Glenwood and Kuemper Catholic, followed by the Abraham Lincoln Tournament Friday and Saturday.
