Class of 2019 parents organize tribute to Jordan Taylor

Parents of the class of 2019 are working to bring a tribute to a Red Oak student to the school ball field.

Jennifer Bruce and Kelly Maynes, parents of students in the class of 2019, said they have organized a project to honor Jordan Taylor, who passed away in 2016.

“Our boys were freshmen when Jordan passed away. We spoke with Jordan’s family, and we wanted to donate something in his memory to have at the school. They wanted something at the football field, because football was his passion. After bouncing around ideas, we decided on a bench. There are a few others already located at Russ Benda Field, and felt it would be appropriate,” Bruce said.

Bruce added the location and the memorial, she believes, would help keep the memory of Jordan Taylor for the community.

“However many years go by, his memory would still be alive with that bench bearing his name,” said Bruce.

The class of 2019 will purchase the bench, which is being made by Red Oak Fabrication. The bench will be orange with a black backing.

“We would like to dedicate the bench to the family on Red Oak’s last home game, Friday, Oct. 13, hopefully before the game, so the junior football players could dedicate the bench with us,” commented Bruce.

Members of the Red Oak School Board expressed no reservations to the idea. Further details on the ceremony are pending.
