Christmas Eve fire under investigation
The Red Oak Fire Department is investigating a fire that took place at a Red Oak residence on Christmas Eve.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce said they were called to the scene of the fire at 410 E. Nuckols St. at around 3:15 a.m. Upon arrival, the upstairs of the residence was filling with smoke. The first arriving engine reported fire in the upstairs. All occupants were accounted for. Firefighters were on the scene for over two hours.
Bruce said there was extensive fire and water damage to the upstairs, and damage estimates were unavailable at this time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants of the residence. Bruce said the home had a working smoke detector within the residence that activated and alerted the occupants to the fire.
No injuries were reported to the home's occupants, or fire and rescue personnel. The Red Oak Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Elliott Fire Department, Stanton Fire Department, Red Oak Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, and MidAmerican Utilities.
