Charmed life | Charm Carpenter

Some people may think of the World Trade Centers when they hear the term Twin Towers. Others may remember the nickname given to Michael Payne and Greg Stokes from the early 1980s Iowa Hawkeye team.
Me? I think of the two co-coaches for the Red Oak High School football team; one is 6’8” and the other 6’5”.
I interviewed Dan Stoakes and Ryan Gelber last week, and these guys are tall. They are both aware of this fact, and when you introduce yourself, there is no need to tell them that. I said I felt small and they replied, “You are.” I’m pretty sure they hear comments like that a lot.
Dan Stoakes owns BDF Investments in Red Oak, and has been an assistant coach in Stanton for three years for football and basketball. This is his first head coaching job for football, and he will be the head boys basketball coach in the winter.
Stoakes will have the defensive responsibilities for the Tigers.
“I’m excited to move up the ladder into a head coach position. My expectations are for the coaches to establish a foundation. We are not going to measure our success by our wins and losses this year. We want to get the enthusiasm going and get those numbers up.”
Gelber is a recent graduate of Illinois State where he played football for five years and started for two. He will take on the offensive responsibilities for the Tigers.
“All the people that I met in the interview process I really enjoyed,” Gelber said. “I think there is a good vision from the people in town, the administrators, and athletic director. Everyone has a great vision to move forward, a positive vision and I wanted to be a part of it. There is a lot of potential here.”
Things are definitely looking up for the Tigers from the perspective of this charmed life.
