Charlotte L. Strickland, 82

Charlotte Strickland, 82, of Stanton, died on June 30, 2009, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak .

Charlotte Lenore Caroline Lantz Strickland, the daughter of Arnoth and Nora (Oakleaf) Lantz, was born Jan. 5, 1927, on the family farm south of Stanton.

Charlotte attended Stanton High School, where she was a starting forward on the basketball team all four years of high school. She was the salutatorian of her graduating class of 1944. She then worked at Houghton State Bank in Red Oak until her marriage to Harry Strickland, Jr. on April 6, 1945, at Mamrelund Lutheran Church.

Charlotte was very active in church activities, was a 4-H leader, and a member of neighborhood clubs.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband Junior, parents, step-father Ernest Swanson, sister Octavia (Allan) Levine, sister Korine Finley, brother Levi (Dorothy) Lantz, brother-in-law Lloyd (Helen) Strickland, sister-in-law Florence (Malcolm) Victor, and brother-in-law Ivan Nelson.

Charlotte is survived by her children: Julie (John) Newman of Stanton; Joel Strickland of Stanton; Janean (Rodney) Hart of Stanton; and Joan (Richard) Staples of Corning.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two future great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service were held on July 6 at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton. Burial was in North Page Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating.
