Carolyn D. Olson, 72

Carolyn D. Olson, 72, of Red Oak, died on March 27, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness.

Carolyn Dee Olson was born Jan. 14, 1937, in New Market, the daughter of Orville and Agnes (Brenton) Mitchell.

The family moved to the Villisca, area when Carolyn was very young. She graduated from Villisca High School with the class of 1955. She attended Burroughs Business School in Omaha and started work for Sears and Roebuck Company.

Carolyn moved to Oregon when Howard was in the service and then they were married on Oct. 28, 1956, in Villisca, when Howard was home on leave. When Howard got out of the military in 1957 they moved to Omaha until 1970 when they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio.

In 1973 they moved to Indiana and in 1977 back to Red Oak, where Carolyn worked for many years at the Fountain Square Pharmacy. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Preceding Carolyn in death were her three infant siblings; her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Frank and Evelyn Olson; her brother: Charles Mitchell and his wife Frances; and sisters-in-law: Marilyn and Phyllis Olson.

Survivors include her husband: Howard Olson of Red Oak; children: Kim (Lynn) Ellis of Red Oak; Mark (Kathleen) Olson of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and Karla (Jim) Wood of Red Oak; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., April 2 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 p.m. April 1, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Good Samaritan Center Bus Fund, the Red Oak Public Library, or the First United Methodist Church.
