Red Oak Tigers softball traveled to Atlantic Saturday, June 4, to participate in the Atlantic Tournament. Although the team lost all three games, the Tigers turned in some major plays.

The day started with the Tigers losing to Carroll High School, 12-11.

Red Oak led 11-7 entering the bottom of the seventh before Carroll made a comeback.

Kamryn Buntrock went 3-4 including a grand slam home run and two singles, earning six RBI. Sydney Streicher went 3-4 with three runs scored.

Game two pitted the Tigers against the Atlantic Trojans, who won, 8-3.

Leaders for the Tigers were Buntrock with two hits and one run scored. Sarah Behrens rapped two hits and scored two runs.

The third game ended with Panorama defeating the Tigers, 4-2. Streicher went 2-3 with a run scored. Buntrock went 1-3 with 1 RBI.

Zoey Welter pitched all 21 innings of the three games with seven strikeouts and allowing 15 runs.

“We played pretty good all three games, but we’re really pleased with how the last game went after a long day,” Coach Tristin Johnson said. “We were a few hits or plays away from coming home with two wins or possibly three.”

Lewis Central

Thursday, June 2, the Tigers softball team hosted Lewis Central in a doubleheader, coming up empty in both games.

After a week of rain delays, Welter pitched six innings in game one, only allowing three earned runs. However, errors accumulated defensively and the Tigers lost, 14-0.

Jasmine Forward had the only hit for the Tigers. Josie Shudak led the Titans with a double and a home run.

In the game two shutout loss, Maddie Wendt was the only Tiger to connect, hitting a double. Welter pitched seven innings with only three earned runs. The game ended 7-0.

Friday night action pitted Red Oak against Carroll Kuemper in a doubleheader.

The Tigers lost 11-1 in the first game. Streicher had a lead off single to start the game and score the only run for Red Oak.

Welter pitched all six innings.

“Zoey threw strikes, but Kuemper hit really well and had several hits land between fielders,” Coach Johnson said.

Game two’s final score was 13-1, ending after four innings. Streicher again hit a single and scored off a triple hit by Buntrock, who went 2-2 with both triples.

“We looked much better tonight even though the score doesn’t show that,” Johnson said.
