Bates named to WIC all-conference
GRISWOLD — Devin Bates was one of three Griswold boys’ basketball players selected to the all-conference team, released by the Western Iowa Conference, last week.
Bates was the lone Griswold player selected as first team all-conference. Bates is joined on the first team list by Riverside’s Ricky Williams, Treynor’s Chris Zimmerman and Conner Meis, Underwood’s Sean Blakely and Tri-Center’s Britton Barrier.
Bates, a junior, was the third highest scorer in the WIC, averaging 17 points per game.
Jared Schoning was selected as a second-team all-conference player for Griswold. Schoning is joined on the list by Riverside’s Brady ryan and Deven Moore, Missouri Valley’s Steven Humphrey, Treynor’s Cole Chapin and Underwood’s Austin Konsor.
Schoning was the team’s leading rebounder and second in scoring, averaging 13.2 points per game.
Collin Fast was an honorable mention as a coach’s pick for Griswold. Other honorable mentions include AHST’s Bill Price, Tyler Robinson and Todd Schmidt, Riverside’s Ean Patrick, Kody Stowell and John Gunderson, Missouri Valley’s Cody Cunard, Underwood’s Ryan Spiegel and Treynor’s Kyle Ticer.
Fast was Griswold’s leader in blocks as he had 11 for the season.
