Basketball Scoreboard: Jan. 24
Here's a look at some scores from around the area Tuesday night.
Girls Basketball: Red Oak 47, Stanton 36
The Tigers got a big win Tuesday night over the Viqueens. Red Oak took the lead early in the first quarter and built it up from there. The Tigers took a 12-point lead at halftime and would hang on to win.
Stanton's loss snapped a 10-game winning streak, which started before the holiday break.
Red Oak will be back in action Thursday night as they play their final road game of the regular season against Tri-Center. The Tigers four games following, will be at home. Stanton will play Friday night against East Mills.
Boys Basketball: Villisca 52, Clarinda Academy 51
A 23-point fourth quarter made the difference in the game as Villisca walked away with the win over Clarinda Academy.
Travis Herzberg and Damon Sunderman each recorded 17 points to lead the Blue Jays.
The win for Villisca was their second in the last two nights. They'll be in action Thursday night at Audubon.
Boys Basketball: Stanton 44, South Page 39
Both teams stayed close for the entire game. However, Stanton held off a late fourth quarter rally by the Rebels to get the Vikings their first win since Jan. 9.
Jeff Marshall and Austin Becthold both had double-doubles in the win. Marshall scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Becthold scored 11 and grabbed 10.
Stanton will be back in action Friday night at East Mills.
Girls basketball: Villisca 76, Clarinda Academy 10
Four Villisca players had double-digit points as the Blue Jays got back in the win column.
Jill Vanderhoof scored a team high 15 points in the win over Clarinda Academy. Amanda Focht had a double-double, 14 points and 11 rebounds, in the win.
Mikayka Dolch scored 11 points and Jenny King scored 12 off the bench. Villisca will be back in action Thursday night at Audubon.
